The building process took 15 months to complete and the first distillation took place at the Balvenie Distillery on 1\u003csup\u003est\u003c\/sup\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eMay 1893. Grant remained active in the company until his death in 1923 at age 83.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Balvenie distillery initially provided fillings, primarily for the Grant’s Standfast blend, until 1973 when the first official bottling was made. Its continued requirements as a contributor to blends initially restricted its growth as a stand-alone brand. This was eased slightly with the opening of Kininvie Distillery in 1990, but it was only with the building of Ailsa Bay Distillery that greater single malt stocks were finally made available.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Balvenie Single Barrel First Fill 12 Years is a single malt Scotch whisky aged in a First Fill Ex-Bourbon cask. As a limited-edition release, only a maximum of 300 bottles are drawn from a single cask and each bottle is hand-numbered and carries the cask reference number.
